About Us

The South Asian Sociological Society (SASS) was formally established in January 2025 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, India, with a vision that extends beyond national boundaries and reflects the evolving sociological realities of South Asia. Conceived as a regional scholarly platform, SASS represents a broader and more inclusive perspective than existing national sociological associations.

The founding initiative of SASS is rooted in a strong commitment to the advancement of scientific and sociological knowledge across South Asia. The Society brings together diverse academic disciplines, methodological traditions, and regional perspectives to address shared social challenges and intellectual aspirations. Distinct from its predecessors, SASS places particular emphasis on international cooperation, regional inclusivity, and interdisciplinary engagement among sociologists and social scientists throughout South Asia.

The Society’s core activities include the biannual publication of the Journal of the South Asian Sociological Society, along with E-Journals and Newsletters. In addition, SASS organizes academic conferences, supports research committees, and hosts memorial and thematic lectures to promote scholarly dialogue, research collaboration, and professional development within the region.

SASS offers a range of membership categories—including institutional, individual, student, and affiliated social science societies—designed to encourage broad participation, foster academic networking, and strengthen the dissemination of sociological research across South Asia and beyond.
